Licensing your content out to others builds links and raises your domain authority. You can do this with images, data, a tool or product.  It’s a great way to get unique links for large amounts of content. Rand suggests the following best practices:

  • Get the link back.

  • Make it ‘self-service’ for people to download the content or use a sales force if you’re a bigger company, which also is a great way to network.

  • Try to avoid a subdomain being used, angle for the company’s domain with the most domain authority.

  • Try to make it free. The only exception is when you think adding a small charge will make others perceive your content as more valuable.

  • Make API’s a part of the terms and conditions of the license so you can collect more data.
