In this week’s Whiteboard Friday, Rand discusses correlation data. Correlation is the degree to which one metric predicts another. It is also important to understand that correlation does not equal causation. A positive correlation will show in a score between 0 and 1. The standard error shows the degree to which the variables are connected. A lower standard error provides more certainty.
Use of correlation data in SEO and Social Media Campaigns
Track individual data points. You may notice that Top 10 lists are popular at a given time, so you write one. This intuition is correlation.
Use data in aggregate or average correlations to find the correlations between metrics. The higher sample size you use, the lower your standard error will be.
