Many business websites may have two types of content. For example, a business might sell a product, and on a separate site, have a blog about things relevant to the product. It would be better to combine the two sites into one, but it must be done right.

Less Ideal

  • Separate subdomains.

  • Separate design/navigation between the site and blog. People may like only one, and it will put them off the other.

  • Obviously manipulative cross-linking.

More Ideal

  • Same domain, but use subfolders.

  • Same design and well integrated UI.

  • Same ‘voice’, keep brand consistency.

  • Link across intelligently and link both ways.

  • Create ‘Evergreen’ content – content that goes outside just the blog. For example, resources that the audience can use and link to.
